District Grants

The Zeeland Education Foundation granted additional funds of $35,000 to support the expansion of the Phonics First program at Zeeland Public Schools to grades 3rd – 5th. The success of this program in the K-2nd grades has created a need for the upper level teachers receiving these students to be knowledgeable in the Phonics First program and to be able to expand the students’ learning. This program has been so effective at Zeeland Public Schools that other school districts in the state are seeing our results and are purchasing it for their school systems. We are proud to support Zeeland Public Schools by helping to provide resources that go above and beyond and create innovative learning opportunities for the students.

The Zeeland Education Foundation is excited to partner with Zeeland Public Schools to support the district wide goal of literacy. We presented a check to ZPS for $50,000 to support the Phonics First program. ZPS has implemented Phonics First in all K-2nd grade classrooms this school year and teachers spend 20-25 minutes per day teaching this new effective program.

Zeeland Public Schools is very excited to offer Spanish Immersion to our Kindergarten, first and second grade students, along with high school freshman. The Zeeland Education Foundation partnered with the school district to bring Add-A-Lingua consulting firm in on this project. Add-A-Lingua provided ZPS with a solid base of knowledge and basic skills and curriculum ideas to build off of. By working with this firm the ZPS Spanish Immersion program will kick off in the fall of 2014 a well thought out, well organized program with a solid curriculum that meets all state and district standards and provides students with an exciting and engaging learning experience. The Zeeland Education gave $18,000 to the district to help start the Spanish Immersion pilot program.
